Volkswagen have announced that they will be launching a number of new models in South Africa during 2025.
This includes an entry level model of the recently introduced T-Cross fitted with a 70kW engine and featuring a more affordable price tag than the current 85kW Life variant.
Most surprising is that Volkswagen will be launching entry level derivatives of the Golf 8.5, including a model powered by a 1.4-litre engine. This 1.4-litre engine fitted to the Golf 8.5 is well proven and offers 110kW and 250Nm.
This is a turnaround for the iconic hatchback model which has only been available in GTI and R form since the launch of the Golf 8 in 2020.
Volkswagen believe that the introduction of regular Golf models for the masses holds value for the brand, both due to the strong heritage of the Golf nameplate in South Africa, which they would like to continue to foster as well as for fleet and rental customers, with whom Golf 7, 1.4-litre models were extremely popular in the past.
While the entry level derivatives of the Golf 8.5 will be launched in South Africa in 2025, the Golf 8.5 GTI and Golf 8.5 R are yet to released by engineers for South African introduction due to concerns regarding our fuel quality. While plans are afoot it seems that this will only take place once South Africa sharpens its regulations on the quality of fuel sold locally.
The VW Tayron will also make its way to SA in 2025, slotting into the line up between the Tiguan and the Touareg and giving customers a more affordable large SUV option featuring seven seats.
Plenty new models expected from Audi
Sister brand Audi will also have a busy year in 2025 with plans to refresh the A3, A5 and Q5, SQ7, SQ8 and RSQ8.
Audi also plan to launch the new Q6 e-tron and redesigned Q5 during 2025.
The facelifted Audi A3 hatch and sedan will arrive early in the new year, followed by similarly updated S3 and RS3 models.
Audi have also confirmed that the new A5 Sedan will make its way to SA in May 2025, replacing the A4 Sedan and Sportback.
