Mitsubishi has launched the sixth generation Triton in South Africa. This all-new model has been subjected to an extensive redesign in all key areas including the interior, exterior design, chassis and engine.
All-new love it or hate it design
The exterior design is a complete departure from its predecessor. While the Dynamic Shield still forms part of the Triton’s face this is now accompanied by a three-dimensional grille, fenders and bumper. The daytime running lights are made up of three L-shaped LED lights paired with three-dimensional three light elements below.
Along the side the Triton features large solid surfaces that incorporate distinctive character lines. The rear-end is simple and clean and home to T-shaped taillights that emphasise the width and solid design.
Premium, spacious interior
The interior has received a massive upgrade. This includes drastically improved interior dimensions, high-quality materials and a special focus on overall noise reduction.
The dashboard is characterised by a horizontally themed instrument panel as well as geometric shapes and metallic elements. An eight-inch infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. A seven-inch multi-information instrument cluster offers the driver all the necessary information at a glance.
The interior is noticeably roomier thanks to an additional 50mm in width between the driver and front passenger. Front seat adjustment is also excellent, which along with steering wheel reach adjustment allows everyone from the shortest to the tallest drivers to find the optimum seating position.
A new 2.4-litre engine
A redesigned 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine makes use of a variable geometry turbocharger to offer improved output and efficiency to the tune of 135kW at 3500rpm and 430Nm at 2 250rpm. This engine is mated to either a six-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission.
GL models are powered by a 2.4-litre DI-DC engine that delivers 81kW at 4 000rpm and 200Nm from 1 000rpm in conjunction with a five-speed manual transmission.
Unrivalled 4x4 ability retained
The Mitsubishi Triton has a reputation for being a bakkie that doesn't stand back for the toughest off-road obstacles, and this is largely thanks to Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II system. The system offers four settings which can be electronically engaged by a rotary dial which includes two high, four-high, four-high with centre diff locked and four-wheel drive low range. Seven driving modes tailor power delivery according to the surface underfoot.
The latest in terms of active and passive safety systems
The new Triton prioritises occupant safety across all types of terrain with a variety of innovative active and passive safety systems. This includes the Super Select II four-wheel drive system that incorporates Active Yaw Control. This is supported by Active Stability & Traction Control, Hill Descent Control and Hill Start Assist. Keeping occupants safe in the event of a collision are driver and passenger airbags on single cab models. Double cab GL models are fitted with driver, driver knee and passenger airbags, while all other derivatives add front, side and curtain airbags to the arsenal.
11 models to choose from
The new Mitsubishi Triton range comprises of 11 models which includes single cab, double cab, 4x2 and 4x4 derivatives. Double cab models include a GL derivative, GLS 2WD auto and GLS 4WD manual and automatic models.
Mitsubishi South Africa have also developed three special editions for local customers that are fitted with a variety of bespoke accessories and aesthetic enhancements making them ideal for more specific use cases. The Triton Athlete is aimed at urban trendsetters, the Triton 46 has been developed for overlanding enthusiasts and hardcore adventurers while the Triton Xtreme has been designed for motorists who are looking to balance city life with outdoor adventures.
Best in class warranty
The Mitsubishi Triton model range is being offered at an extremely competitive price point and adding further to the value for money proposition is a class leading after sales offer which includes a five-year/unlimited mileage warranty, a five-year/90 000km service plan and five-year unlimited mileage roadside assistance.
